Víspera Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

Contemplamos hoy a Jesús resucitado y glorioso, mostrando su Corazón adorable. 

El profeta, Isaías anunciando los bienes que traería el Mesías, había dicho: «Beberéis aguas con gozo de la fuentes del Salvador». Siglos más tarde el evangelista san Juan recordaba cómo Jesús «puesto en pie, dijo en alta voz: El que tiene sed, venga a mí y beba el que cree en mí. Pues, como dice la Escritura, de su seno manarán ríos de agua viva». Y el mismo evangelista explicaba que eso lo dijo Jesús refiriéndose al «Espíritu que habían de recibir lo que creyeran en El». 

En el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús están esas fuentes de Salvación que, como escribió Pío XII purifican el alma, la llenan de consuelos sobrenaturales y la mueven a alcanzar todas las virtudes. 

Ese Corazón, que comenzó a latir en el seno de la Virgen María cuando el Verbo de de Dios se hizo carne, mostró su compasión y su misericordia hacia los pecadores y los enfermos y, «habiendo amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el extremo» de tal modo que cada uno puede decir: «Me amó y se entregó por mí». 

De ese Corazón transpasado nació la Iglesia y de Él fluye la gracia de los sacramentos que nos dan la vida sobrenatural porque aún palpita, resucitado y glorioso, en el Cielo. 

Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, en Vos confiamos. Madre de Dios en cuyo seno se formó el corazón de Jesús que adoramos: ruega por nosotros.

Solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

La historia de Israel habla de la fidelidad de Dios que se mantiene incluso cuando el hombre es infiel. Por su misericordia «no nos trata como merecen nuestros pecados» pero su justicia no puede cerrar los ojos a nuestra injusticia y exige una reparación. ¿Cómo se pueden conciliar en Dios la justicia —que exige reparación del mal causado— y la misericordia que mueve al perdón?

Nuestra redención es obra de la justicia y de la misericordia de Dios. Lo explicó santo Tomás de Aquino y lo recordó Pío XII en la encíclica Haurietis aquas dedicada al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. 

Es obra, en primer lugar de la justicia de Dios: «con su pasión Cristo satisfizo por la culpa del género humano, y, por consiguiente, por la justicia de Cristo el hombre fue libertado».

Es obra en segundo lugar de la misericordia: cuando el hombre no podía «satisfacer por el pecado, que manchaba a toda la naturaleza humana, Dios le dio un Redentor en la persona de su Hijo».

Por eso dice san Juan que el amor no consiste «en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó y nos envió a su Hijo como víctima de propiciación para nuestros pecados».

Esta solemnidad nos mueve a adorar al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, a dar gracias por su amor y a reparar con amor nuestras propias faltas y las de todos los hombres. 

El mismo Jesús nos pide que aprendamos de la mansedumbre y de la humidad de su corazón que lo llevó a cargar con nuestros pecados sufriéndolo todo por amor y que permanezcamos en su amor. 

Santa María, queremos aprender de ti la verdadera devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús sometiéndonos también nosotros a su yugo suave y a su imperio de paz, de justicia y de caridad.

Sacred Heart of Jesus on the eve

Today we contemplate the risen and glorious Jesus, showing His adorable Heart.

The prophet Isaiah, announcing the goods that the Messiah would bring, had said, "You will drink waters with joy from the fountains of the Saviour." Centuries later, the Evangelist Saint John remembered how Jesus "stood and said in a loud voice, 'Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them'." The same Evangelist explained that Jesus said it referring to the "the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive."

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus are those sources of Salvation that, as Pius XII wrote, purify the soul, fill it with supernatural consolations and move it to achieve all the virtues.

That Heart, which began to beat in the womb of the Virgin Mary when the Word of God became flesh, showed His compassion and mercy towards sinners and the sick and, “having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end" in such a way that each one can say, "He loved me and gave Himself for me."

From that pierced Heart the Church was born and from Him flows the grace of the sacraments that give us supernatural life because it still beats, risen and glorious, in Heaven.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in You. Mother of God in Whose womb the Heart of Jesus that we adore was formed: pray for us.

Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Israel's history speaks of God's faithfulness that is maintained even when man is unfaithful. By His mercy "he does not treat us as our sins deserve" but His justice cannot close His eyes to our injustice and demands reparation. How can God's Justice, that demands reparation for the evil caused, be reconciled with God's  mercy that moves to forgiveness?

Our redemption is the work of God's justice and mercy. Saint Thomas Aquinas explained it and Pius XII recalled it in the encyclical Haurietis aquas dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

It is the work, first of all, of the justice of God: "by His Passion Christ made satisfaction for the sins of the human race, and so man was set free by Christ's justice."

It is the second work of mercy: when man could not "satisfy by sin, which stained all human nature, God gave him a Redeemer in the person of his Son."

This is why Saint John says that love does not consist "in that we have loved God, but in that He loved us and sent us His Son as a victim of propitiation for our sins."

This solemnity moves us to adore the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to give thanks for His love and to repair with love our own faults and those of all man.

Jesus Himself asks us to learn from the meekness and humility of His heart that led Him to bear our sins, suffering all for love and to remain in his love.

Holy Mary, we want to learn from You the true devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by submitting ourselves to his gentle yoke and to His empire of peace, justice and charity.
