Salió el sembrador a sembrar

Domingo décimo quinto del Tiempo Ordinario

Jesús habla de la tarea evangelizadora como de una siembra. La semilla es el Evangelio y la tierra es el discípulo al que se confía el Evangelio de la salvación. 

Ante todo el discípulo debe aprender la doctrina. Si lo que ha oído no queda en su memoria y en su corazón viene a ser como la semilla que cae en el camino y, rebotando, queda a merced de los pájaros. 

Decía san Juan Pablo II que es imposible que broten las flores de la  fe y de la piedad «en los espacios desérticos de una catequesis sin memoria». 

El catequista que ayuda a los niños, a los jóvenes y a los adultos a memorizar las fórmulas de la fe y del dogma, los textos de la Misa y de la Sagrada Escritura está realizando una auténtica siembra que, a su tiempo, dará su fruto. 

El recuerdo fiel, la memoria de la doctrina, es tan importante que el mismo Jesús prometió a sus discípulos que el Espiritu Santo vendría en su auxilio para recordarles cuanto Él había enseñado. Y en la parábola del sembrador compara a los pájaros con el diablo que arrebata del corazón la palabra oída con lo que nos alerta contra esa labor del mal espíritu que quiere que olvidemos, que no hagamos memoria de lo aprendido. 

Quien ha aprendido de memoria ya ha interiorizado de alguna manera. Pero aún hace falta que lo que se ha aprendido sea meditado en la oración para que la verdad ilumine y guíe nuestros pasos . 

Orar es volver a escuchar y a considerar interiormente lo aprendido para que arraigue en nosotros. Sin oración el discípulo es como el terreno pedregoso en el que la doctrina no puede echar raíces y se seca. 

Por eso el catequista que nos enseña a hacer oración, a alabar a Dios con los salmos, a participar en la liturgia, a examinar la conciencia, a meditar el evangelio y a considerar los dogmas de nuestra fe está coperando con el sembrador. 

El discípulo ha acogido la semilla aprendidendo la doctrina y esta ha empezado a echar raíces en la hondura de la oración pero aún debe vigilar para que los afanes del mundo y el amor a las riquezas no la ahoguen. 

En su oración por sus discípulos Jesús se dirigirá al Padre diciendo: «No te pido que los saques del mundo sino que los guardes del mal». 

Así el discípulo debe aprender a vivir en el mundo sin ser mundano. Una vez más, el catequista realizará una auténtica siembra si dando ejemplo de unidad de vida, nos enseña, como hemos pedido en la oración colecta, a rechazar lo que es indigno del nombre de cristiano y a cumplir cuanto en él se significa.

Seguimos preparándonos para la fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Ella es la buena tierra que —dijo san Agustín— concibió a Cristo  por la fe primero en su mente y luego en sus entrañas. Por su intercesión pedimos a Dios que nos ayude a aprender su doctrina, a meditarla en el corazón y a guiarnos siempre por ella.

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus speaks of the evangelizing task as a sowing. The seed is the Gospel and the soil is the disciple who has heard the Gospel of salvation.

First of all the disciple must learn the doctrine. If what we have heard does not remain in our memory and in our heart, it becomes like the seed that falls on the road and, bouncing, is at the mercy of the birds.

Saint John Paul II said that it is impossible for the flowers of faith and piety to sprout "in the desert spaces of a catechesis without memory."

The catechist who helps children, young people and adults to memorize the formulas of faith and dogma, the texts of the Mass and of Holy Scripture is carrying out an authentic sowing that, in due time, will bear fruit.

Faithful memory, the memory of doctrine, is so important that Jesus Himself promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to their aid to remind them of what He had taught. In the parable of the sower, he compares the birds with the devil who snatches the word from the heart. In that way, He alerts us against the work of the evil spirit who wants us to forget, that we do not remember what we have learned.

Whoever has memorized the doctrine has already internalized it in some way. But what has been learned still needs to be meditated on in prayer for the truth to illuminate and guide our steps.

To pray is to listen again and internally consider what has been learned so that it takes root in us. Without prayer the disciple is like the stony ground where doctrine cannot take root and dries up.

That is why the catechist who teaches us to pray, to praise God with the psalms, to participate in the liturgy, to examine conscience, to meditate on the Gospel and to consider the dogmas of our faith is cooperating with the divine Sower.

The disciple has received the seed learning the doctrine and it has begun to take root in the depth of prayer but he must still watch so that the cares of the world and the love of wealth do not drown it.

In His prayer for His disciples, Jesus will address the Father saying: "I do not ask You to take them out of the world but to keep them from evil."

Thus the disciple must learn to live in the world without being worldly. Once again, the catechist will cooperate with the Sower if, giving an example of unity of life,  teaches us, as we have asked in the Collect prayer, to reject what is unworthy of the Christian name and to fulfill what is meant in it.

We continue preparing for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She is the "good soil" that - St Augustine said - conceived Christ by faith first in Her mind and then in Her body. Through Her intercession we ask God to help us learn his doctrine, meditate on it in our hearts and always be guided by it.
