Martes de la décima novena semana del Tiempo Ordinario

Cuando los discípulos preguntaron a Jesús acerca de quién es el más importante en el reino de los cielos, Jesús primero hizo algo y luego dijo algo.  Lo que dijo no se puede entender si no se atiende a lo que hizo: llamó a un niño y lo puso en medio.

De ese niño no se nos dice que fuera humilde o que fuera inocente. Solamente se nos dice que era pequeño, que Jesús lo llamó y que Jesús lo puso en medio. 

Ese niño no eligió estar en medio de ellos y nada, ni sus virtudes, ni su experiencia de la vida ni su sabiduría podían justificar que estuviera allí, en medio, sino solamente el hecho de que Jesús lo había llamado y lo había puesto allí. 

En realidad eso mismo había hecho Jesús con sus discípulos y ellos debían entender que en el reino de los cielos lo que cuenta es la elección de Dios. Viendo lo que Jesús hizo con ese niño deberían entender lo que había hecho con ellos: sin mérito alguno por parte de ellos Él los había llamado de modo que no podían presumir sino ocupar con humildad el puesto que Él les había asignado.

Mucho antes que a cualquiera de ellos Dios había llamado a una joven de Nazaret que respondió a esa llamada diciendo: «Ecce ancila Domini. Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum». Ella es la Reina de los Apóstoles y de los Ángeles.

When the disciples asked Jesus who is the most important in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus first did something and then said something. What He said cannot be understood if we don't pay attention to what He did: He called a child and put him in the middle.

We are not told of that child that he was humble or innocent. We are only told that he was little, that Jesus called him and that Jesus put him in the middle.

That child did not choose to be in their midst and nothing, neither his virtues, nor his life experience nor his wisdom could justify his being there, in their midst, but only the fact that Jesus had called him and put him there.

In fact, Jesus had done the same with his disciples and they had to understand that in the kingdom of heaven what counts is God's choice. Seeing what Jesus did with that child they should understand what He had done with them: without any merit on their part He had called them so that they could not boast but humbly occupy the position He had assigned them.

Long before any of them was called, God had called a young girl from Nazareth Who responded to that call by saying: “Ecce ancila Domini. Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum ». She is the Queen of the Apostles and of the Angels.
