San Bruno

Nació en Colonia en el siglo XI y estudió en la escuela catedralicia de Reims de la que llegó a ser director con solo veintiséis años. Entre sus discípulos estuvo Odón de Chatillon, el futuro Papa Urbano II.

Sintiendo la llamada a una vida de oración y retiro inició la búsqueda que lo llevó con otros seis compañeros hasta el desierto de la Chartreuse cerca de los Alpes donde fundó una comunidad eremítica conocida como la Cartuja. 

Urbano II, empeñado en la reforma de la Iglesia, lo llamó a Roma como consejero pero le permitió seguir llevando vida retirada. San Bruno fundó entonces en Calabria el segundo eremitorio. De sus hermanos escribió: «como centinelas divinos esperan la llegada del Señor para abrirle apenas llame». 

Allí murió el año 1101. 

Por intercesión de la Virgen del Rosario pedimos a Dios que nos conceda la gracia de servirle con un corazón libre del apego a las cosas terrenas.

Saint Bruno

He was born in Cologne in the 11th century and studied at the Reims cathedral school, of which he became director when he was only twenty-six years old. Among his disciples was Odo de Chatillon, the future Pope Urban II.

Feeling the call to a life of prayer and retreat, he began the search that led him with six other companions to the desert of the Chartreuse near the Alps where he founded a hermitage community known as the Charterhouse.

Urban II, committed to the reform of the Church, called him to Rome as a counselor but allowed him to continue leading a retired life. Saint Bruno then founded the second hermitage in Calabria. Of his brothers he wrote: "as divine sentinels they await the arrival of the Lord to open to Him as soon as He knocks.

There he died in 1101.

Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, we ask God to grant us the grace to serve him with a heart free from attachment to earthly things.
