San José Obrero

Empezamos el gran mes de la Virgen de la mejor manera: haciendo la conmemoración de san José, uno de sus amores en la tierra. 

San José trabaja con sus manos en la presencia de Dios, sostiene con su trabajo a Jesús y a María, enseña a trabajar nada menos que al Hijo de Dios y, al mismo tiempo, sirve en su taller a su comunidad, a los vecinos del pequeño pueblo de Nazaret.

Si unimos el trabajo y la devición a la Virgen María, podemos hacer una plan para alegrar a nuestra Madre en mayo. Cada día podemos hacer a la Virgen la ofrenda de algún trabajo. 

A uno le cuesta hacer la cama y su madre tiene que perseguirlo y amenazarlo: ¡haz la cama! Puede ser una buena ofrenda: «Madre, por ti, este mes de mayo no tendrán que amenazarme para que haga mis tareas de casa». Otro, a lo mejor, trabaja en el supermercado y puede ofrecer a la Virgen la primera hora de su trabajo pidiendo que Ella bendiga al pueblo y a la parroquia. 

Algunos tenemos defectos que nos llevan a ofender a Dios, a entristecer a nuestros hermanos y a perder la alegría. Podemos ofrecer a la Virgen nuestro empeño por mejorar durante este mes. Otros no tenéis defectos pero tenéis que soportar los nuestros. Y esa paciencia con nuestros defectos también puede ser una ofrenda preciosa. 

Unos podréis pasar un momento por la iglesia, cuando salís a la compra, para hacer una breve oración ante la imagen de la Virgen del Rosario, o de la Dolorosa o de la Virgen del Carmen. Otros tendréis que hacerla desde casa y a lo mejor os animáis a mandarle un mensaje al cura: «¡hoy he hecho mi ofrenda a la Virgen!». 

Van a pasas cosas estupendas en este mes de mayo, cosas que harán que la Virgen nos mire con una sonrisa. 

El evangelio nos habla del escándalo de los que oyeron decir a Jesús «si no coméis mi carne y no bebéis mi sangre no tenéis vida en vosotros». 

Ante unas palabras tan misteriosas y tan duras solamente caben dos opciones. La primera es pensar «esto es una locura, no se entiende y, por muy bueno que sea Jesús no puedo seguir tras Él». La segunda opción es la de san Pedro. Consiste en reconocer que no entendemos todo lo que Jesús nos dice y en fiarnos de Él con humildad. Ya entendenderemos, ahora nos basta con creer: «Señor ¿a quién iremos? Solo tu tienes palabras de vida eterna». 

La primera opción es la de quien se queda con lo que le gusta de Jesús y aparta lo que no le gusta. La segunda es la opción del verdadero discípulo: creo todo lo que Dios ha revelado y la Iglesia nos enseña.

Madre, queremos que nos dediques una gran sonrisa cada día de este mes de mayo. Si siempre acudimos a tu intercesión, hoy lo hacemos con más motivo: pon tus manos sobre nuestras familias que están sufriendo mucho. Extiende tu manto sobre nuestros pueblos y parroquias. ¡Acuérdate, Señora! ¡Acuérdate!

San Joseph Worker

We begin the great month of the Virgin in the best way: by commemorating Saint Joseph, one of her loves on earth.

Saint Joseph works with his hands in the presence of God, he holds Jesus and Mary with his work, teaches none other than the Son of God to work and, at the same time, serves his community, his neighbours, in the workshop of the little town of Nazareth.

If we join work and devotion to the Virgin Mary we can make a plan to make our Mother happy in May. Every day we can make the Virgin an offering of some work.

One has a hard time making the bed every day and his mother has to chase and threaten him, “Make the bed!” It can be a good offering, "Mother, for you, this May they won't have to threaten me to do my housework." Perhaps another one works in the supermarket and can offer the Virgin the first hour of her work asking that She bless the town and the Parish.

Some of us have defects that lead us to offend God, sadden our brothers and lose joy. We can offer the Virgin our efforts to improve during this month. Those of you who do not have defects have to bear ours. That patience with our defects can also be a precious offering.

Some of you can spend a moment in the church, when you go shopping, to make a short prayer before the image of the Virgin of the Rosary, or the Virgin of Sorrows or the Virgin of the Mount Carmel. Others will have to do it from home and maybe you dare to send a message to the priest: "Today I have made my offering to the Virgin!"

Great things are going to happen this May, things that will make the Virgin look at us with a smile.

The gospel tells us of the scandal of those who heard Jesus say "if you do not eat My flesh and drink My blood you have no life in you."

In the face of such mysterious and strong words, there are only two options. The first is to think "this is crazy, I don't understand, and as good as Jesus will be, I can't follow after Him." The second option is that of Saint Peter and consists in recognising that we do not understand everything that Jesus tells us and trusting Him with humility. We will understand, but now it is enough for us to believe: «Lord, to whom shall we go? Only You have the words of eternal life».

The first option is that of those who choose what they like about Jesus and reject what they don't like. The second is the choice of the true disciple: I believe everything that God has revealed and the Church teaches us.

Mother, we want you to give us a tender smile every day this May. If we always ask you to intercede for us  today we do it with more reason. Put your hands on our families who are suffering a lot. Spread your cloak over our towns and parishes. Remember us, Our Lady! Remember us!
