San Pablo VI

«Apacienta mis ovejas». 

Jesús encargó a Pedro la misión de confirmar en la fe a sus hermanos. Esa misión la heredan de san Pedro todos sus sucesores, los Papas. El amor al Papa ha sido siempre un rasgo distintivo de los católicos que rezamos por él en cada Misa.

Celebramos la memoria de san Pablo VI, un Papa al que muchos de nostros recordamos. En su última encíclica Humanae vitae de 1968 rechazó el aborto y los métodos anticonceptivos enseñando que los actos conyugales deben estar abiertos a la transmisión de la vida. 

Estas enseñanzas fueron recogidas por el Catecismo de la Iglesia y, cincuenta años después, en 2018, el Papa Francisco canonizó a Pablo VI recordando cómo «aun en medio de dificultades e incomprensiones, testimonió de una manera apasionada la belleza y la alegría de seguir totalmente a Jesús (y de) vivir nuestra vocación común: la vocación universal a la santidad».

Movido por su devoción a la Virgen, san Pablo VI escribió también la encíclica Mense Maio recordando que, en este mes, desde los templos y las casas, sube hasta el cielo nuestro homenaje de veneración a Santa María y, desde el Cielo, vienen a nosotros los dones de la misericordia divina.

"Feed my sheep."

Jesus entrusted Peter with the mission of confirming his brothers in the faith. That mission is inherited from Saint Peter by all his successors, the Popes. Love for the Pope has always been a distinctive feature of Catholics who pray for him at each Mass.

We celebrate the memory of Saint Paul VI, a Pope that many of us remember. In his last encyclical Humanae Vitae of 1968, he rejected abortion and contraceptive methods, teaching that conjugal acts must be open to the transmission of life.

These teachings were included in the catechism of the Church and, fifty years later, in 2018, Pope Francis canonized Paul VI, remembering how “even in the midst of difficulties and misunderstandings, he passionately testified to the beauty and joy of following fully to Jesus, living our common vocation: the universal vocation to holiness."

Moved by his devotion to the Virgin, Saint Paul VI also wrote the encyclical Mense Maio remembering that, in this month, from the temples and houses, our homage of veneration to our Holy Mother goes up to Heaven and, from Heaven, they come to us the gifts of Divine Mercy.
