Martes de la sexta semana de Pascua

San Felipe Neri

Jesús, durante la Última Cena, ha estado hablando a sus discípulos. Ahora levanta los ojos al Cielo para orar delante de ellos. Les ha enseñado a orar diciendo «Padre nuestro, santificado sea tu Nombre» y ahora Él mismo se dirige a su Padre diciendo «glorifica a tu Hijo para que tu Hijo te glorifique y dé la vida eterna a los que le confiaste».

Nuestro Señor Jesucristo no busca la gloria humana sino, únicamente, la gloria de Dios. Está dispuesto a pasar entre los hombres no solo como uno más sino como el último de todos, y a morir condenado por el mundo como un criminal por nuestra salvación. 

San Felipe Neri (1515-1595) fue natural de Florencia, como santa María Magdalena de Pazzi cuya memoria celebrábamos ayer, aunque cincuenta años mayor que ella.  Fue un gran apóstol de la juventud de Roma y allí fundó la Congregación de los Padres del Oratorio. 

En la oración  sobre las ofrendas pedimos que siguiendo su ejemplo, también nosotros nos  consagremos «con entusiasmo» a glorificar el Nombre de Dios y a servir al prójimo. Él lo hizo con humildad, con buen humor y con un amor grande a la Virgen María.

Nuestra Señora se le apareció con el Niño un día que estaba enfermo y lo curó. Antes había tenido una visión de la Iglesia amenazada de ruina pero sostenida por la Señora. 

Acudimos también nosotros a su intercesión. Santa María, Madre de la Iglesia, monstra te esse Matrem!  Muestra que eres Madre.

Tuesday of the sixth week of Easter

Jesus, during the Last Supper, has been speaking to his disciples. Now He raises His eyes to Heaven to pray before them. He has taught them to pray saying "Our Father, hallowed be your Name" and now He himself addresses His Father saying "glorify your Son so that your Son may glorify You and give eternal life to those You entrusted to Him."

Our Lord Jesus Christ does not seek human glory but only the glory of God. He is willing to live among men not only as one more but as the last of all, and to die condemned by the world as a criminal for our salvation.

San Felipe Neri (1515-1595) was a native of Florence, like Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi whose memory we celebrated yesterday, although fifty years older than her. He was a great apostle of the youth of Rome and, there, founded the Congregation of the Fathers of the Oratory.

In the prayer of offerings we ask that, following his example, we also consecrate ourselves "with enthusiasm" to glorify the Name of God and serve others. He did it with humility, with good humour and with a great love for the Virgin Mary.

Our Lady appeared to him with the Child one day when he was sick and cured him. Before, he had had a vision of the Church threatened with ruin but sustained by the Lady.

We also ask Her intercession. Holy Mary, Mother of the Church, "Monstra te esse Matrem!" Show that you are Mother.
