Domingo de la sexta semana de Pascua 2020

En la Última Cena Jesús promete a sus discípulos que no los dejará huérfanos sino que rogará al Padre que les dé otro Paráclito. 

Así llama Jesús al Espíritu Santo: “Paráclito”. Es una palabra griega para nombrar al que está junto a nosotros como consejero, como abogado y como amigo que acompaña, conforta y consuela. 

Jesús ha sido todo eso para sus discípulos. 

Ha sido consejero y, tan buen consejero que, cuando muchos discípulos lo abandonan y Él pregunta a los se quedan «¿también vosotros queréis dejarme?», san Pedro le dirá: «Señor, ¿a quién iremos? solo tú tienes paabras de vida eterna». 

Ha sido su abogado. Recordamos esa escena maravillosa de la mujer a la que llevan a su presencia acusándola de adulterio e invocando contra ella la Ley de Moisés que castigaba el adulterio con la lapidación. «El que esté libre de pecado, tire la primera piedra», dice Jesús. Y luego, asolas con ella: «Yo tampoco te condeno, vete y no peques más». 

Sobre todo ha sido su amigo fiel y así quiere que lo recuerden. «A vosotros os llamo amigos». 

Cuando mueren nuestros padres realmente sentimos la orfandad. Y es un sentimiento de desamparo, de vacío. Jesús no quiere dejar a sus discípulos así. Promete que estará con ellos hasta el final de los tiempos aunque de otro modo. Tendrán otro Paráclito, el Espíritu Santo que es el mismo Espíritu de Cristo. 

  Muy pronto los discípulos comprobarán que Jesús ha cumplido su promesa. Cuando Jesús resucite, su pena se convertirá en alegría, y cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre elllos, esa alegría se hará contagiosa. Comenzarán alabar a Dios, a evangelizar y, con el poder del Espíritu Santo, harán las obras que hizo Cristo. También ellos perdonarán los pecados y, anunciando el evangelio, dejarán por todas partes el buen olor de Cristo. 

Espíritu Santo Paráclito, muchos nos dan consejos y quieren ocupar tu puesto guiando nuestras vidas pero, siguiendo sus consejos, nos hemos olvidado de Dios. Sé Tú nuestro consejero. 

Espíritu Santo Paráclito, los que se llaman defesores nuestros nos han abandonado y se han aprovechado de nosotros. Sé Tú nuestro abogado.

Espíritu Santo Paráclito, si Tú nos faltas nos sentimos vacíos, y huérfanos. Sé Tú el amigo fiel que conforta, acompaña y consuela y que, abrazándonos, nos une a todos en su amor con el Padre y el Hijo. 

Santa María, en este mes de mayo y siempre, ruega con nosotros y por nosotros para que seamos, como Tú, templos del Espíritu Santo y sagrarios vivos de la Santísma Trinidad.

Sunday of the sixth week of Easter 2020

At the Last Supper, Jesus promises His disciples that He will not leave them orphans but will ask the Father to give them another Paraclete.

This is how Jesus calls the Holy Spirit, “Paraclete”. It is a Greek word to name the one next to us as a counsellor, as a defender and as a friend who accompanies us, strengthens us and comforts us.

Jesus has been all that to his disciples.

He has been a counsellor and, such a very  good counsellor, that when many disciples leave Him, He asks those who remain, "Do you also want to leave me?,  Saint Peter will say to him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Only You have the words of eternal life."

He has been a defender. We remember that wonderful scene of the woman who is brought into His presence accused of adultery. They invoke against her the Law of Moses that punished adultery with stoning. "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone," says Jesus. Then, in isolation with her: "I don't condemn you either, go away and sin no more."

Above all, He has been a faithful friend and He wants to be remembered that way. "I call you friends."

When our parents die we really feel orphanhood. It is a feeling of abandonment, of emptiness. Jesus does not want to leave his disciples like this. He promises that He will be with them until the end of time, but in a different way. They will have another Paraclete, the Holy Spirit who is the same Spirit of Christ.

  Very soon the disciples will see that Jesus has kept his promise. When Jesus rises, their grief will become joy, and when the Holy Spirit comes upon them, that joy will become contagious. They will begin to praise God, to evangelize and, with the power of the Holy Spirit, they will do the works that Christ did. They too will forgive sins and, proclaiming the Gospel. They will leave everywhere the good smell of Christ.

Holy Spirit Paraclete, many give us advice and want to occupy Your position guiding our lives but, following their advice, we have forgotten God. Become our counsellor.

Holy Spirit Paraclete, those who call themselves our defenders have abandoned us and taken advantage of us. They have led people to war and misery. Become our defender.

Holy Spirit Paraclete, if you leave us we feel empty, and orphaned. Become our faithful friend Who accompanies us, strengthens us, comforts us and Who, embracing us, unites us all in Your love with the Father and the Son.

Holy Mary, in this month of May and always, pray with us and for us so that we may be, like You, temples of the Holy Spirit and living tabernacles of the Holy Trinity.
